Millions of Americans can’t apply for jobs, finish schoolwork, or access vital services because they lack basic digital tools. Meanwhile, mountains of electronics end up in landfills.
Human-I-T set out to tackle both problems by giving unwanted tech a second life.
“We work tirelessly every day to make sure people have access to low-cost devices, internet, training, and tech support so they can become fully connected digital citizens,” said Aaron Wilkins, senior vice president of finance and compliance.
The model works. Through partnerships with businesses, community organizations, and tech companies, the nonprofit grew from a closet-sized office in Los Angeles to 11 metro areas nationwide.
But as demand surged, Human-I-T’s mission began to outpace its operations.
“We knew where we were headed, with state and federal contracts on the horizon, and we needed a way to handle that volume efficiently and compliantly,” said Wilkins.
With help from the Docusign Intelligent Agreement Management platform, Human-I-T gained the speed, visibility, and scale to advance its mission.
By the numbers, Human-I-T was thriving: over half a million devices delivered, 110,000 households connected, and plans to serve 20% more people in the coming year.
But the agreements fueling that growth were a black box, and the compliance team felt the weight of questions they couldn’t easily answer.
“Our CEO and sales leader were asking, ‘How many in-flight contracts do we have and where are they in the process?’” said Wilkins.
Without visibility, they risked missed deadlines, stalled workflows, and falling out of compliance.
At the suggestion of Human-I-T’s compliance leader, Wilkins explored CLMs and chose Docusign to bring agreements, teams, and timelines into one clear view.
“We wanted a self-service model where anyone could see how things are moving,” said Wilkins. With Docusign CLM, leaders can track when agreements were kicked off, how long they’ve been in each stage, and where they’re stalled—without having to piece details together through emails and spreadsheets. “Now, we can put pressure where it’s needed to hit our SLAs.”
For Wilkins, who sits at the intersection of revenue, risk, and regulation, having a bird’s-eye view of the entire pipeline is invaluable. It’s even more critical as Human-I-T steps into government agreements with stricter oversight, tighter deadlines, and higher stakes.
“I can drill down to see what people are working on, when they last touched it, and whether I need to follow up with my team, sales, or our external legal group to keep things moving,” said Wilkins.
That clarity, he said, has helped turn finance and legal from gatekeepers into partners who can propel sales forward.

Complex sales and internal agreements used to take up to six weeks. With CLM, that dropped to just two to three.
Now, they have the data to back it up. For the team, it’s a benchmark to beat. For leadership, it’s proof the tool works. And for the mission, it’s the capacity to connect more people, faster.
“It’s been a huge shift in energy and resources for us,” said Wilkins. “We've been able to handle much higher volumes.”
Building on its CLM success, Human-I-T is now using Docusign Navigator—part of the Intelligent Agreement Management platform—to uncover post-signature insights and trends with AI.
Instead of building reports, teams will soon just type questions like “Which agreements have been waiting more than seven days?” or “What’s the average completion time for public sector agreements?” and get answers on the spot.
“We believe in continuous improvement at Human-I-T,” Wilkins added. “We’re excited to see new features roll out that will make our teams’ lives easier.”
